DESIGNING YOUR CAREER SWEET SPOT

After a childhood, teen years and early professional life filled with angst trying to please others, it wasn't until I truly allowed myself to focus on where I knew I excelled (or could), on what I was passionate about and on what kind of place would bring out my best that I was able to be intentional about what I really wanted in my career.

Now I know. To be truly satisfied in a career, it must be comprised of exactly those three elements above and a somewhat selfish perspective. Before you start looking for a new house, for example, you make a list of "must haves" and "nice to haves." Same with a new car, yes? Treat your career plan or job search no differently.

It has to start with YOU and your goals.

Get intentional about first carefully understanding what constitutes the three key elements of your ideal role, at the intersection of which you'll find the sweet spot: your ideal career.

3 ELEMENTS OF YOUR IDEAL CAREER

Whether you are a highly motivated jobs seeker looking for a new position or a gainfully employed professional looking for the "next opportunity" internally, consider these three elements when asking yourself, "What do I really want to do?"

Function

This is the what you do piece. The tasks and activities you're responsible for completing, the role you play, the duties and responsibilities in the job description. Marry your unique MO - how you naturally do the things you do - and your strengths with a role that needs those talents to accomplish the job most effectively and you have a match that allows you to do what you do best every day.

For example, if you are a gregarious brainstorming type who adapts every documented process to address the needs of the current situation and who thrives on experimenting with new ideas to see if they work... perhaps a role in direct marketing planning and analysis isn't for you. (That was me, by the way. For the first 15+ years of my professional life.) No, no, leave that job to a systematic planner who decides, through strategic data analysis, what is feasible to try then carefully measures the results to gauge success and gather information on how to do it better next time. (Thank goodness for me there are people out there like this!)

Passion

The why you do what you do piece. What difference do you want to make? What impact? What will be your legacy? What would make you excited to get out of bed every morning to work on and invest 8+ hours a day?

I'm not necessarily talking about finding the cure for cancer or saving the whales here. Unless that's truly your thing. I'm talking about what you feel is important... what is meaningful to you. Just because your father wanted to fill the world with song doesn't mean that's what would make you race into the shower after turning off the alarm every morning. When you can work toward making a difference in some area that you feel strongly about, you will apply what you do best every day to something that matters.

Environment

The where you do what you do best piece. What does the "place" look like that will allow you to do your best work? Bright, open shared space? Private office? Your car? Outside? What is the culture/core values of the organization? Who are your colleagues (if any) and what are their attitudes, beliefs, work ethic? What are the ideal benefits and compensation?

From the physical space to the intangibles like values and benefits, outlining the characteristics of the right environment is just as important as what you do and why you do it in order to find - or design - the exact right fit for YOU.

Career job information for job seekers and find good employment job

The range of careers means that there isn’t a typical entry route into the environmental sector. If you want to work in the environmental aspects of another field, find out about the best entry routes from the relevant sector pages. As with any job, look out for adverts – checks out magazines concerned with the environment, the national and regional press, and take a look at online environmental jobs sites. If there are specific organisations that you’d like to work for, it’s well worth making speculative applications. Volunteering can be a way to get your foot in the door – if you demonstrate your excellence as a volunteer, you might be offered a paid position when one becomes available. You might even be able to creates a position at the organisation through the government’s New Deal jobs creation scheme.

How competitive is it?

The heightened awareness of environmental issues means that there are an increasing number of jobs in the sector. It also means that more people are studying environmental subjects, creating more competition for graduate positions. The sector employs 1.5 million people, and more than 25,000 new employees will be needed in the next five years, according to Lantra, the Sector Skills Council for the Environmental and Land-based Sector. It’s important to recognise that you don’t have to work in the environmental sector – you will be able to practise and promote sustainable development in practically any career.

How canI and out from the crowd?

There are lots of ways that you can make yourself attractive to potential employers:
  • Student membership of relevant societies will not only increase your knowledge of the sector and show your commitment, but also give you opportunities to network and make useful contacts.

The Secret of Selling Yourself

A very effective and persuasive tactic when selling something is to promote its benefits as well as its features. Very simply, features are what something has; benefits are what those features do for you. For example, if you’re selling your used Oldsmobile, one of the features you might mention is its large trunk. If you focus only on the feature, you’ll say, “This car has a large trunk.” (Yawn) But if you promote that feature with its benefit, you could say, “The trunk is huge. You can get three suitcases and your golf bag in there for a trip to Disneyland and still have plenty of room for all the souvenirs you’ll want to bring home!” See how that makes a more powerful impression? The potential buyer can visualize how this car with its large trunk can make packing for his next trip much easier. Use the same tactic for each feature of the car, and (Ka-ching!) you have a much quicker sale.
When you’re preparing your resume or answering questions during an interview, you’re selling yourself, so use that same tactic: sell your benefits along with your features! Here’s how:
Consider these typical “features” a job applicant might mention during an interview:
• 10 Years of Experience
• Ability to Type 90 Words Per Minute
• Strong Organizational Skills
• Dedicated
• Excellent Communicator
• 2004 Administrator of the Year, Acme International Inc.
Those are pretty impressive. Now let’s see how you can turn those “features” into “benefits:”

Feature: 10 Years of Experience. Benefits: “I know what to expect in this type of position; I’ve handled this type of work before; I won’t need much training or supervision; I’ll hit the ground running and will start producing right away.”

Feature: Ability to Type 90 Words Per Minute. Benefits: “I can get your 10-page reports done in less than an hour; I will speed up your work flow.”

Feature: Strong Organizational Skills. Benefits: “I’ll keep track of your schedule so you’ll always be on time and have the materials you need; I will be able to quickly retrieve any document; I will prioritize my workload to ensure the most critical projects are done first; I will save you time; I’ll help you make your boss happy.”

Feature: Dedicated. Benefits: “I will support the company’s overall mission and do whatever I can to help achieve it; I won’t complain about hard work or long hours; I will faithfully do my job to the best of my ability.”

Feature: Excellent Communicator. Benefits: “I will easily be able to give you and your staff the information you and they need, whether in verbal or written form; I will be able to compose much of your correspondence, relieving you of that duty; I will save you time and effort.”

Feature: Administrator of the Year, 2003, Acme International Inc. Benefits: "I’m very good at what I do, and you don’t have to take my word for it – here’s proof that others have recognized my skill, professionalism, and outstanding contributions.”

Even more impressive!

See how that works? A “feature” is nice. But even better is answering the hiring manager’s unspoken question, “So why is that important?” You do that by selling your benefits.

Make a list of your own features and their corresponding benefits. Learn to promote these benefits to your potential employer. Do this in your cover letter, your resume, and during your interview to make a powerful impression. You will SELL yourself into a new job!

5 Tips on Employee Performance Reviews

By SCORE
  1. Concentrate on what you and the employee can achieve together in the future. Don’t use performance reviews just as a means of telling workers everything they’re doing wrong.
  2. Strive for consistency and fairness. Apply performance criteria to all employees, not just a few.
  3. Encourage employees to evaluate themselves and to discuss their own strengths. Your view of an employee and the employee’s view of himself should match fairly well. Otherwise, it’s a warning signal.
  4. Be honest about poor performance, but not brutal. Document your observations in writing.
  5. If you’re small enough that constant communication and feedback are taking place, you may be able to avoid performance reviews. But don’t send the message that performance isn’t critical.

How to Fit An Active Lifestyle into a Busy Schedule

You've been wanting to get in shape but you don't feel like you have any time. Your job keeps you busy and once you're home, you don't have the time or energy to work out or exercise. What can you do? Here are a few tips to get in some exercise where you never thought possible.

Commuter?
If you commute, you have a perfect opportunity to exercise. If you can, get off the bus a few stops before you usually do. The walk will likely do you some good. You'll be able to clear your mind, relax, and unwind before you get home.

Going Up?
If you work in a high-rise and it's safe, try taking the stairs. Don't do any more than you feel capable of, especially if you are just starting off. Work your way up slowly. You can take the elevator half-way or two-thirds of the way, then walk to the rest. You'll be amazed at the exercise you are getting. And stairs are a great way to get into shape.

Walk When You Can:
By parking further away, you can get in a walk where you never thought you could as well as saving yourself a lot of frustration and anxiety that is associated with trying to find the best spot. And this doesn't have to be just at work. Try it when you go grocery shopping and at the mall. You'll be amazed at how your anxiety decreases when you aren't fighting for a parking spot right next to the door.
When you're running quick errands, try walking. Sometimes, it's not really quicker to take the car when you factor in traffic and parking.

Motivate:
Support is one of the best ways to help ensure you'll be able to continue exercising. Why not start a lunchtime walking club at work? Gather a few people from your office who have similar goals and plan a walking circuit. Invest a bit of money into getting a pedometer. You'll be amazed at how little time it takes to rake up actual kilometers. Set some goals for yourself and for the group and celebrate when you achieve them.

Learn How to Manage Your Time:
Often we think we don't have time to exercise, when really, we aren't managing our time properly. If you are self-employed, work from home, or have a flexible work schedule, make sure you spend your time efficiently. Checking email, re-reading reports, and unnecessary meetings are all great examples of time wasters. Set yourself a goal, how much work you'd like to accomplish, and once you've reached it, give yourself a break and reward yourself with your favourite form of exercise.
Fitting exercise in a busy lifestyle just takes a little creativity and thought. Sneaking exercise in your daily routine is easier than you think. You can walk around your neighbourhood, the office, or when running an errand.

Compromise Agreements Tax Implications

By Fiona E Martin

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

Compromise Agreements are legally binding agreements between an employer and an employee, sometimes referred to as a termination settlement. They allow for a clean break of the employment relationship where the employee waives their right to bring claims in return for compensation.
The first £30,000 of compensation is generally tax free. However, this is not the case with every Compromise Agreement. How much of a payment is taxable depends on the basis on which it is paid. So if you are giving or receiving compensation in a Compromise Agreement it pays to look at ways to make it as tax efficient as possible. Here are some of the options.
Salary and benefits to date
All payments made up to the point the contract of employment ends are subject to normal tax and national insurance deductions.
Payment in lieu of holiday
Payments in lieu of holiday are taxable.
Pay in lieu of notice
Where such payments are allowed for in the employee's contract of employment or employee handbook they are taxable. Where they are not, they may be paid gross and count towards the £30,000 exemption.
However, where an employer routinely makes payments in lieu of notice - even if it is not part of the employment contract - HM Revenue & Customs may consider tax should be deducted.
Payments for restrictive covenants and confidentiality obligations
An employer may restrict an employee from acting in competition, or approaching customers or employees after they leave. If the contract contains enforceable restrictive covenants, the employer can rely on these if it has not breached the contract when terminating the employment.
However, if the contract does not have these provisions, or they are unenforceable, the employer can seek new restrictions. To make these binding in law a "consideration" must be paid - usually a small sum of £100-£200. This is taxable and liable to national insurance contributions. The same applies to payments associated with a confidentiality clause.
Compensatory and ex-gratia payments
The first £30,000 of compensatory, ex gratia (non-contractual) payments for loss of office or employment is tax exempt.
Redundancy Compromise Agreement
Statutory and contractual redundancy payments fall within the £30,000 exemption.
Pension contributions
Direct payments into a pension scheme are not taxable unless they exceed annual and lifetime contribution allowances.
Outplacement costs
Contributions to the cost of outplacement counselling or training are not taxable. Usually paid directly by the employer, they do not count towards the £30,000 exemption.
Legal costs
The employer usually pays the employee's legal costs. This does not count towards the £30,000 exemption as long as the fees are solely in connection with termination of employment.
Sums exceeding the £30,000 exemption
If the Compromise Agreement compensation exceeds the £30,000 exemption, tax is deducted at basic rate on the additional amount.

Leaders Are Created

By Joaquin Duenas

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

Being a leader takes up time, dedication and inner exploration. Natural Born Leaders have certain qualities that properly developed will then create a great leader. Becoming a leader is a daily task, that takes time and experience, being exposed to different types of problems and challenges and having to deal with different individuals.
Athletes have a natural talent, not only to a single sport but in general to all physical activity. Athletes have to work hard, typically harder than most of us to bring out the best of them. Relying on their talent alone will not bring out the exceptional skills and they would only be average players. The same theory applies to leadership, everyday there are things to learn and gather knowledge from experiences. Personality, integrity, passion and setting the example are key elements to becoming a successful leader.
Leaders learn from other leaders, they learn by gaining experience from problem solving, they do not limit themselves and they are constantly looking to grow and for new challenges. Leaders learn from each other, they learn to distinguish success from failure and good actions from bad decisions. The golden rule to being a great leader is acknowledging his or her strengths and weaknesses and those of the people that conform his or her team.
Knowing the individuals will allow a leader to place the right person in the right task and successfully increase the chances of achieving positive results. What makes one person a better leader than others is entirely up to each individual, the tools are available, but it all depends on how each individual makes use of them. All individuals with hard work and dedication can master the necessary skills to become a successful and respected leader.
An individual must be passionate. Love and live the work they do. An individual that has a job to work from 8 to 5 and take home his paycheck will not succeed as a team leader; the person has to do it for the thrill and the satisfaction. Everyone needs a salary, individuals do not work for free, but there is a huge difference between working only for the money and working and enjoying what you do. Money will come if the individual works hard and honesty and sincerity are part of the way he or she does business. Hard and dedicated people, as long as they master the skills needed, will become successful leaders.

How Do I Know If a Data Entry Site Is Really Genuine?

By Karen Little

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

There are many data entry websites out there. If you just do a basic search on the web for data entry you will find literally hundreds of thousands of websites. This makes it very difficult to know which ones are scams and which ones are legit. Especially if one is not experienced in this field or is a newbie to the internet.
Data entry can be a very lucrative business if you find the right program. A good program will have a good support team and training program along with easy to follow directions and up to date information. If one doesn't have this though, this doesn't necessarily mean it's a scam.
There are several different ways to spot a data entry scam so I have listed a few good ways below.
1. If a website does not have some type of contact form on the site, phone number or an email to where they could be contacted this is definitely not a good sign and I would look elsewhere.
2. If a website has been online for a short period of time or less then a year I wold be a little weary. A good company should be online for at least 2 years. Scam artists usually have fly by night websites that don't last too long so they can cover their tracks so this is something to think about.
3. Run a simple Google search for the company and see what comes up. If they have had a lot of complaints against them in the past it will definitely show up there.
4. If the website promises riches or fast wealth in a fast amount of time then I would be weary. Check to see if they have a disclaimer. A good disclaimer will not promise any amount of riches because it is against the law to do so that means they are following the FTC guidelines and that is a good sign.
These are just a few ways to spot a scam but these 4 things can be very helpful.
for a legitimate data entry job you might want to check out Typist Jobs. They have been around for a long time and pass all 4 of the scam signs we've listed above.

Employee Time Clock Software - 4 Money Saving Benefits

By Jeffery Morrow

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

A traditional timesheet allows employees to record when they start and end specific tasks. For some employees, this just amounts to starting work in the morning and punching out at the end of the day. For others, this may involve keeping detailed start and end times for various activities, projects, or jobs throughout the day. Whatever your business needs, time and attendance software allows your employees to record this information much more easily, accurately, and objectively. Employee time clock software can help lower the operating costs of your business by making payroll processing more efficient, ensuring attendance compliance, making labor costs more visible so you can lower them if necessary, and helping automate the billing or invoicing of your clients.
Time Clock Software Simplifies Payroll
Time and attendance software takes all the punch in and out times that your employees have been recording and generates instant timecard reports based on your payroll rules. Regular hours, overtime, and paid leave time are instantly calculated and totaled for easy input into your payroll software, or sent to your accountant or payroll service. Manual or modified timecard entries should be flagged for easy follow-up and monitoring. Time tracking notes from employees explaining a late or missed punch allow you to quickly adjust timecard entries and print new timecard reports before sending off your payroll. Better yet, export your time clock program data for easy import into your payroll software. Your employee time clock software data should be automatically archived so past payroll reports are always instantly available for any period of time. This means all those hours spent preparing manual timesheets for payroll processing can be reduced to minutes. Timeclock software brings increased efficiency to your business, which saves you money!
Time Clock Software Ensures Attendance Compliance
Time clock software allows you to fully manage time and attendance, even tracking unpaid activities like lunch breaks or unpaid sick leave. Each employee timecard software report should display time spent on unpaid activities completely separate from hours worked. Make it easy to enforce your business rules by knowing how many unpaid days off employees have used. Time clock software makes it easy to track unpaid leave taken under FMLA and mandatory furlough policies. If you are an educational institution looking for a way to track time spent by students in learning or tutoring labs, you can drastically reduce the amount of time spent on mandatory state reporting of compliance with the individualized educational plan for each special education student or adult education hours with time and attendance software. Tracking employee attendance helps you schedule employees more efficiently and ensures compliance with certain legal obligations, which saves you money!
Time Clock Software Manages Labor Costs
Time and attendance software uses those same employee timecard payroll punches for labor costing. By including employee gross wages, your timecard software reports can be summarized to provide you with labor hours and dollar costs for any activity, task, job, or department for any period of time. Labor costing reports will quickly show you actual labor hours and costs on a per job basis. You should have easy access to timecard software reports that monitor labor costs for each business activity. Your time clock program reports will accurately track all employee time spent on each job, showing you changes in job labor costs from job to job, or the same job for any time period. Timeclock software gives you the knowledge you need to allocate actual labor hours on a per job basis, and being knowledgeable about the resource usage of your business saves you money!
Time Clock Software Automates Client Billing
Time and attendance software should summarize timecard reports by client, job, or department for the accurate billing of labor hours. Run timecard software status reports to make sure you are remaining within project budgets before the project ends. Set your time clock program rounding calculations for billing to the nearest minute, or in tenth or quarter hour increments. Your time tracking labor totals can now be easily entered into your invoicing or accounting software for accurate and timely billing of your labor. Quickly add a time tracking note to your reported client hours to explain job details or project tracking status. The key to tracking labor time accurately is to record new job activities as they happen. Most time clock software is easy to install and configure so it can be affordably deployed on any computer at your business. This ensures real time job tracking is convenient and easy for your employees. Timeclock software helps you accurately bill clients and stay within project budgets, which saves you money!

How to Use Your Subconscious Mind Power for Creating Success, Wealth & Health

By John Meaden

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

The potency of the subconscious mind has become a hot subject in the world of personal achievement for over a hundred years now. But it is only in relatively recent years that we've had proof from a scientific level, including quantum physics, about how the use of our subconscious mind power has a greater influence over how we attract situations into our lives. Increased success, wealth and health can all be experienced by knowing how to fully understand and put to use the power of our thoughts.
When the book and film "The Secret" was launched, and since that time increasing numbers of people have become aware of the power of the subconscious mind and how it is linked to the law of attraction. If you want to discover how this great secret of success and prosperity will allow you to attract your ideal lifestyle, there are a few points you need to understand:
Your subconscious mind power is your greatest gift
Everybody believes that the most significant element which gives power to individuals is the gift of free will. Primarily human beings have the option of totally reinventing their own subconscious conditioning according to the things they choose to think about on a constant basis...and this is the key, as our lives are moulded by our most dominant thoughts. It isn't just a case of 'you are what you eat', it is more importantly 'you become what you think about'.
This concept has essentially been around for thousands of years, as in fact one of the authors of the Old Testament explained the fact that "as a man thinketh in his heart, so he is." However exactly what does this suggest with regards to the power of the Law of attraction together with attracting affluence, health and success?
Just take a look at some of the wealthiest men and women on the planet who have lost their fortunes and consequently managed to completely rebuild them from scratch. Do you think this is just luck?
Is it possible that these people could end up that lucky twice in a lifetime? In spite of the fact that a large number of people have also been researched or have written their own books about precisely how they made it happen, most people are unable to copy their particular accomplishments. That's simply because it isn't the method of principles that is applied which makes someone financially successful, healthy or successful within their relationships...it is actually about the individual applying the principles.
Which means that if you would like develop into the type of person who is able to very easily attract much better health, wealth and success into your life, your primary task is to use your subconscious mind power to reprogram yourself for prosperity.
Once you begin doing this you are going to produce the identical subconscious conditioning which has made other individuals prosperous. It really is just a matter of time before your actions and habits begin providing outcomes which are consistent with that thought process. But there's another side to using the power of the subconscious mind which is even more awe-inspiring and amazing than that.
The Power of the Subconscious Mind and your connection to the Universe
Over the past hundred years, physicists have found that we are located within an enormous energy field and that also everything comprises of energy. The appearance which something is in (solid, liquid or matter) depends on the vibrational condition of this energy.
The intriguing thing about this is that you utilize the power of the subconscious mind to alter your own conditioning, and this starts the process of establishing a different form of vibration on your body. If the different kind of vibration is in sync with the energy of precisely what you really want, you will end up drawn to the things that you desire.
You are going to see them more regularly and you will be presented with flashes of inspiration from your subconscious mind which will enable you to take the appropriate action that will attract these things to you
Recently, this way of thinking has become more mainstream thanks to films like 'the secret' and is more commonly known as the "law of attraction".
The law of attraction claims that the things that you possess in your life are caused by your current subconscious programming developing a vibration inside you that automatically attracts the things that you desire.
One thing is certain here, and that is the fact that learning to understand and harness your subconscious mind power is vitally important in achieving anything in your life. You become successful, wealthy and healthy 'first' in your mind, and then it comes to pass in your physical reality. It is that simple.

The Passive Job Seeker is Golden

By Phil Adamo

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

Especially in today's economic environment, employers are becoming increasingly "choosy" with regard whom they hire... and rightfully so. With the unemployment rate reaching highs that we have not seen in decades, more and more job seekers have resorted to "fabricated enthusiasm" in hopes of impressing recruiters. These candidates are willing to settle for a job they are less than passionate about, while waiting for a career opportunity for which they are truly qualified to come around. This makes for a not-so-happy employee, and one with the potential to infect his or her coworkers. This becomes costly for the employer who has needlessly wasted time, energy, and money on an employee who is unlikely to remain long enough to justify the investment.
As a recruitment advertising executive with more than 25 years experience, let me share an important lesson that I learned though working with some of the most successful staffing professionals in the industry. It is simply this: The best candidates for any position are ones who are already employed in a similar or parallel position, and who are not unhappy with their situation. Just because they are not actively seeking a new job, however, does not mean they are not open to opportunity when it knocks. The question is, how do you reach the passive job seeker.
While career websites are a vital tool for recruiters, I have to believe that someone who takes the time to go on such a website is actively looking for a job. Does that make such people bad candidates? Of course not, but it does suggest that career websites are unlikely to provide more than a very limited number of the passive seekers described above.
Daily Newspapers, on the other hand, can be very successful tools for reaching the passive seeker - especially those who commute. And guess what? These people are commuting because they are going to work... because they are employed! Advertisements in national and regional dailies have performed very well at bringing these passive job seekers to our clients.
Using metropolitan New York City as an example, many of our clients advertise in such prominent dallies as the NY Times, Post, Daily News, and Newsday on a steady basis, especially those looking for top-notch salespeople and healthcare workers. Another excellent vehicle for reaching the passive seeker is the daily newspaper, amNewYork. Distributed at no cost at commuter venues throughout New York City and its suburbs, amNewYork enjoys a huge commuter circulation.
What about younger candidates who appear to be losing interest in the print media? Some magazines already have interactive editions compatible with such platforms as smartphones and the new iPad. These turn print advertisements into live videos that are certain to attract the younger demographics. And as augmented reality applications help transform the print media into entry portals for web-based interactivity, they are bound to recapture a substantial share of the younger audience. They will undoubtedly find ways to dazzle those of us in the older demos, retaining our interest as well.
So, if your entire recruitment strategy is based on career websites alone, you may be missing out on a pool of ideal candidates. Only by integrating your online efforts with the print, radio, and television are you likely to find the golden goose, and not just one of an army of unemployed people eager to double park for a while on your dollar!

By Rafael Tassini

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

If you are a business owner who wants to grow in spite of the tough economic period we find ourselves in, you might want to streamline your business and make it more efficient and productive. Hiring a business coach to consult on ways to make your business more effective and efficient is valid investment in the future. If you need to raise capital, consultants with a business coach certification can help you follow strategies to get the capital you need. These trained individuals have received certification that they have completed a challenging course and stringent qualifying exam. Business coaches with this credential are prepared to serve your company in assessing the business operation and suggesting changes to increase profitability while retaining ethics and quality.
There are dozens of coaches present on the internet right now, but many are simply people with their own opinions about how business is run. They may have even had businesses fail in the economic downturn and now want to start anew with a coaching company. Those who have completed a coaching certification in business have been trained in the tested and proven successful business models, processes, and formulas. These are applicable across many kinds of business. Business coaches with appropriate credentials will also be able to help you know how to set up an initial meeting with staff to kick-off changes in the business.
Specialists with a coaching certification can help business owners set a vision or define a missions and then list action steps. They assist in the process of team-building and communication. Clear communication between staff members can help increase productivity. Confusion is eliminated and employees act more immediately. This is more efficient business practice. Marketing strategies are also an area business coaches often help with. Internet, social media, and traditional marketing avenues can be used very effectively. Perhaps you just need a new perspective to help you recognize the most effective advertising for your business.
All in all, there are many areas a business coaching specialist can help in. Investing in the services of someone who has a business coach certification can make your company more profitable and effective. The employees will work smarter instead of harder and you can enjoy being a business owner instead of working and worrying constantly. Business owners who have an eye toward the future are hiring business coaches to plan ahead and establish a business that will not only last, but thrive as well.

You've decided this is the path you want to take. You've watched enough NYPD Blue and COPS to know this is the life for you. What do you do now?

Dig In:

Call your local police force or your local RCMP detachment. Ask to go on a ride-along. This will give you a better understanding of the job. What you don't see on NYPD Blue you might get to experience on your ride-along.

Talk To Those on the Job:

Get to know your local police officers. Make some contacts at the station by telling them you're interested in the job and in pursuing a career in it. Ask them what they like about, what they dislike, what skills they needed, how they got into it, what skills they think you should have, and anything else you can come up with.

Decide on Which Force to Join:

If you are interested in local police in your town or municipality, check their websites or give them a call to see what qualifications you need to work as a police officer for your town or city. Ask them how many officers they have hired lately and how they see their needs in the future. Education requirements differ from city to city. Some will require you to have a policing course completed. Some hire you first and send you to a police college. As well, many colleges and universities offer preparatory courses to help you get into policing. Ask the force what they are looking for as this could save you a lot of time and money.

If you are interested in joining the RCMP, they have a detailed requirement of what they need. First, you must attend a training session. They are held throughout the country. Contact your local detachment for information on the next available training session. Then you must write the RCMP Police Aptitude Test, do the Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (called PARE, which is used by most police agencies in Canada), then a series of tests, investigations, and evaluations are performed. If you are successful, you will be selected to enroll in the cadet training program at RCMP Depot in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Get Ready:

The process to join a police force can be intense. You've got to be prepared to deal with physical fitness testing, personality and aptitude testing, background checks, and lots of paperwork.

Policing can be a satifying and rewarding career. A little research now will help you prepare yourself and get you closer to fulfilling your goal.

Working At Home? Five Things You Can't Be Without

You've decided to make your home your new home base. Whether you've decided to launch a new business or your job allows you to telecommute from home, there are some basic things you should keep in mind when working from home.

A Designated Space:

You need space to work from home. A desk in the living room is not going to do it. You need to be able to shut the door and be in a separate area that will allow you to be free from distractions. This also helps for the times when you are not working. Since you will be at home most of your life, you need to be able to shut the door and get away when you are not working. Have a separate space allows you to do that.

Investment:

It doesn't need to be a huge amount, but working from home will cost you. You will need your office to be set up with internet access, a separate phone line, and basic office necessities like a filing area, a workstation, a computer, and a quality chair. If you aren't comfortable, and you don't have the tools you need to work, you will likely be frustrated and have trouble concentrating on your work.

Discipline:

Working from home takes strong discipline and concentration. There are many distractions tempting and luring you away from your office. There's television, the fridge, kids, housework, pets and many more. You must make a work schedule, just as you would with any other job. Take breaks, but stick to your schedule. You must remember that when you work unsupervised, only you are responsible for the work you do. If you are the type of person that needs constant supervision and reminders to focus and work, this arrangement may not be for you.

Support:

When you are working in your office, your family and friends need to respect and understand that you are as unavailable as you would be if you were working from an office downtown. Of course, you have added flexibility and you can certainly allow for more family time than if you were working at another location, but they must understand that when you are in your office, you are working. Make sure family members know not to barge in unannouced, not to make loud noises in other parts of the house, and not cause other distractions that will prevent you from working. Keep pets in another part of the house if you know they will be a distraction.

Commitment:

With all the effort it takes to set up a home office, you need to be sure it's exactly what you want. If you can, try it out a few times a month with your employer before committing to full-time telecommuting. It's easy to forget about social interaction, and for some people, it's a critical part of the workday. You might feel alienated from your work environment and have difficulty in keeping a team outlook. If you are going to be working for yourself, you will not have any office-type support when problems arise or you need questions answered. Make sure you have a good support system and consider joining an association of self-employed work-at-home people.

Working from home can be a satifying way of redefining your worklife. With some careful planning and investment, it may be the best move you'll make.

Do You Have What It Takes to Work in Farming or Agriculture?

By Canadajobs.com Staff

Bookmark and Share

Have you been considering a career in farming? Whether you are looking at traditional types of farming such as dairy, cattle, or chicken, or whether you are considering organic vegetables or a vineyard, farming takes a special kind of person.

Up With The Chickens:

Let's face it, agriculture is a lot of hard work. And that work starts early. If you prefer to roll out of bed later than earlier, this might not be the job for you. There is no sleeping in on the weekends either. Depending on the type of farm you operate, you could be working 14-16 hour days.

Able to Handle Stress?:

Working in agriculture can be stressful because there are a lot of things that are beyond your control.

Animals get sick, the weather can damage crops, and prices for your product can fluctuate. You must be able to handle stresses and have the determination to forge ahead. If frost comes early and you have to remove your product from the ground as soon as possible, you must be able to work under pressure and have the ability to remain calm.

Determination:

When the price for your crop or product is on the decline, you have to be able to rationally determine if your business can take it. You have to be the type of person who can see ahead and decide if the risks are worth it. In agriculture, you are at the mercy of the elements, product price fluctuations, and public opinion. You must have a strong belief in your ability to produce a safe and valuable product. Farming is about creating and continuing the food supply in some form or another and with everything that can get in your path, you will need determination.

Energy:

Working at a farm takes energy. Along with the early mornings, there are rarely any vacations. Cows must be milked usually twice a day and you can't skip any milkings. Animals must be taken care of if they become sick, whether it's Friday night or not. The life of a farmer is 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. And if you are doing it because you love it, you don't mind.

Knowledge:

You have to know your stuff. Whether it's animals you are raising or fruits and vegetables you're growing, you need to be on top of your game. Specialized universities and colleges offer programs in agriculture and they should be seriously investigated. Running a farm is a business. You will need business knowledge to go along with your farm knowledge and experience. On the farm, you will have to be able to do a little bit of everything, so it pays to make sure you know what's involved.

A career in agriculture and farming can be very rewarding. Knowing you are playing a role in getting food and products to people makes it all worthwhile. If you have what it takes and the strong desire to do what needs to be done, farming is a career worth investigating.
